The earlyprintk for Xen PV guests utilizes a simple hypercall
(console_io) to provide output to Xen emergency console.
Note that the Xen hypervisor should be booted with 'loglevel=all'
to output said information.

Right now the kernel still has one piece of rbd management
duplicated from the rbd command line tool: snapshot creation.
There's nothing special about snapshot creation that makes it
advantageous to do from the kernel, so I'd like to remove the
create_snap sysfs interface. That is,
/sys/bus/rbd/devices/<id>/create_snap
would be removed.
Does anyone rely on the sysfs interface for creating rbd
snapshots? If so, how hard would it be to replace with:
rbd snap create pool/image@snap
Is there any benefit to the sysfs interface that I'm missing?

This patch implements this proposal, removing the code that
implements the "snap_create" sysfs interface for rbd images.
As a result, quite a lot of other supporting code goes away.

Implement the RFC 5691 mitigation against Blind
Reset attack using RST bit.
Idea is to validate incoming RST sequence,
to match RCV.NXT value, instead of previouly accepted
window : (RCV.NXT <= SEG.SEQ < RCV.NXT+RCV.WND)
If sequence is in window but not an exact match, send
a "challenge ACK", so that the other part can resend an
RST with the appropriate sequence.
Add a new sysctl, tcp_challenge_ack_limit, to limit
number of challenge ACK sent per second.
Add a new SNMP counter to count number of challenge acks sent.
(netstat -s | grep TCPChallengeACK)

oom_badness() takes a totalpages argument which says how many pages are
available and it uses it as a base for the score calculation. The value
is calculated by mem_cgroup_get_limit which considers both limit and
total_swap_pages (resp. memsw portion of it).
This is usually correct but since fe35004fbf9e ("mm: avoid swapping out
with swappiness==0") we do not swap when swappiness is 0 which means
that we cannot really use up all the totalpages pages. This in turn
confuses oom score calculation if the memcg limit is much smaller than
the available swap because the used memory (capped by the limit) is
negligible comparing to totalpages so the resulting score is too small
if adj!=0 (typically task with CAP_SYS_ADMIN or non zero oom_score_adj).
A wrong process might be selected as result.
The problem can be worked around by checking mem_cgroup_swappiness==0
and not considering swap at all in such a case.

On recent kernels, Realtek codec parser tries to optimize the routing
aggressively and take the headphone output as primary at first. This
caused a regression on VAIO Z with ALC889, the silent output from the
speaker.
The problem seems that the speaker pin must be connected to the first
DAC (0x02) on this machine by some reason although the codec itself
advertises the flexible routing with any DACs.
This patch adds a fix-up for choosing the speaker pin as the primary
so that the right DAC is assigned on this device.

This patch introduces a MFD core device driver for
OMAP system control module.
The control module allows software control of
various static modes supported by the device. It is
composed of two control submodules: general control
module and device (padconfiguration) control
module.
In this patch, the children defined are for:
. USB-phy pin control
. Bangap temperature sensor
Device driver is probed with postcore_initcall.
However, as some of the APIs exposed by this driver
may be needed in very early init phase, an early init
class is also available: "early_omap_control".

Distribution kernel maintainers routinely backport fixes for users that
were deemed important but not "something critical" as defined by the
rules. To users of these kernels they are very serious and failing to fix
them reduces the value of -stable.
The problem is that the patches fixing these issues are often subtle and
prone to regressions in other ways and need greater care and attention.
To combat this, these "serious" backports should have a higher barrier
to entry.
This patch relaxes the rules to allow a distribution maintainer to merge
to -stable a backported patch or small series that fixes a "serious"
user-visible performance issue. They should include additional information on
the user-visible bug affected and a link to the bugzilla entry if available.
The same rules about the patch being already in mainline still apply.

Devices that have internal rate control need to be
notified when the bandwidth or SMPS state changes
just like external rate control algorithms get a
notification now.
Add this notification and clarify the change bits
while at it, the HT_CHANGED bit really meant only
bandwidth changed.

Changing the channel type during operation is
confusing to some drivers and will be hard to
handle in multi-channel scenarios. Instead of
changing the channel, set it to the right HT
channel before authenticating/associating and
don't change it -- just update the 20/40 MHz
restrictions in rate control as needed when
changed by the AP.
This also fixes a problem that Paul missed in
his fix for the "regulatory makes us deaf"
issue -- when we couldn't use 40 MHz we still
associated saying we were using 40 MHz, which
could in similarly broken APs make us never
even connect successfully.

There exist several display technologies and standards that support audio as
well. Hence, it is relevant to update the DSS device driver to provide an audio
interface that may be used by an audio driver or any other driver interested in
the functionality.
The audio_enable function is intended to prepare the relevant
IP for playback (e.g., enabling an audio FIFO, taking in/out of reset
some IP, enabling companion chips, etc). It is intended to be called before
audio_start. The audio_disable function performs the reverse operation and is
intended to be called after audio_stop.
While a given DSS device driver may support audio, it is possible that for
certain configurations audio is not supported (e.g., an HDMI display using a
VESA video timing). The audio_supported function is intended to query whether
the current configuration of the display supports audio.
The audio_config function is intended to configure all the relevant audio
parameters of the display. In order to make the function independent of any
specific DSS device driver, a struct omap_dss_audio is defined. Its purpose
is to contain all the required parameters for audio configuration. At the
moment, such structure contains pointers to IEC-60958 channel status word and
CEA-861 audio infoframe structures. This should be enough to support HDMI and
DisplayPort, as both are based on CEA-861 and IEC-60958. The omap_dss_audio
structure may be extended in the future if required.
The audio_enable/disable, audio_config and audio_supported functions could be
implemented as functions that may sleep. Hence, they should not be called
while holding a spinlock or a readlock.
The audio_start/audio_stop function is intended to effectively start/stop audio
playback after the configuration has taken place. These functions are designed
to be used in an atomic context. Hence, audio_start should return quickly and be
called only after all the needed resources for audio playback (audio FIFOs,
DMA channels, companion chips, etc) have been enabled to begin data transfers.
audio_stop is designed to only stop the audio transfers. The resources used
for playback are released using audio_disable.
A new enum omap_dss_audio_state is introduced to help the implementations of
the interface to keep track of the audio state. The initial state is _DISABLED;
then, the state transitions to _CONFIGURED, and then, when it is ready to
play audio, to _ENABLED. The state _PLAYING is used when the audio is being
rendered.

VENC output type (composite/svideo) doesn't have to be fixed by board
wiring, it is possible to also provide composite signal through svideo
luminance connector (software enabled), which is what pandora does.
Having to recompile the kernel for users who have TV connector types
that don't match default board setting is very inconvenient, especially
for users of a consumer device, so add support for switching VENC output
type at runtime over a new sysfs file output_type.

In order to save power the rproc should be tunred off when it is not
in use. However going to suspend and resuming is a heavy task with a
big latency for most of the remote processors. For that reason, a
remoteproc should go to suspend only after some time of inactivity,
this auto suspend timeout is specified by the remoteproc itself
(it comes from the resource table in the firmware).
Remoteproc module is using autosuspend feature of PM runtime framework
in order to accomplish that. Remoteproc module will update the last busy
mark every time there is messaging with the remoteproc, so as you can
see it is not accurate but it gives a very good approximation of how long
the remoteproc has been idle. A new parameter in the suspend operation
for the low level drivers is added @auto_suspend flag which tells you if
the suspend comes from a autosuspend if @auto_suspend is true otherwise
it is a system suspend. In the case of auto_suspend, the low lever driver
is responsible of confirming that the remoteproc is actually idle and
then suspend the device. IF the remoteproc is not idle, the low level
driver has the flexibility of return -EBUSY which tells to the PM
framework that the remoteproc is actually doing something and then the auto
suspend is aborted and there will be another attempt to suspend only
after a time equal to the auto suspend timeout has happened.
Please note that the system suspend needs to be performed even if the
remoteproc is not idle.
Once it is autosuspended the remote processor will be waken up every
time the host needs to send it a message, it is done in the
rproc_virtio_notify function.
The autosuspend timeout comes from the firmware, in case of the firmware
does not provide an autosuspend timeout the remoteproc module will use
a default timeout of 5 seconds. If the timeout in the firmware is
negative that means that remoteproc does not support autosuspend.
In case of autosuspend support, PM runtime framework allows to change
the autosuspend timeout at runtime using a sysfs entry available to each
remote processor.

Remoteproc module now is registering resume/suspend callbacks into
the pm framework using the rproc_class. That way when there is a system
suspend the suspend callback will be called and this callback will check
if the low level driver has a suspend operation that would be called in
order to put the rproc in suspend state (and of course it should save
the context). The same applies for the resume case.
If the low level driver does not have suspend/resume operations that means
it does not support system suspend, and the low driver is not affect by
the suspend and resume transitions.

SPEAr13xx series of SoCs contain Synopsys AHCI SATA Controller which shares
ahci_platform driver with other controller versions.
This patch updates DT compatible list for ahci_platform. It also updates and
renames binding documentation to more generic name.

tcp_adv_win_scale default value is 2, meaning we expect a good citizen
skb to have skb->len / skb->truesize ratio of 75% (3/4)
In 2.6 kernels we (mis)accounted for typical MSS=1460 frame :
1536 + 64 + 256 = 1856 'estimated truesize', and 1856 * 3/4 = 1392.
So these skbs were considered as not bloated.
With recent truesize fixes, a typical MSS=1460 frame truesize is now the
more precise :
2048 + 256 = 2304. But 2304 * 3/4 = 1728.
So these skb are not good citizen anymore, because 1460 < 1728
(GRO can escape this problem because it build skbs with a too low
truesize.)
This also means tcp advertises a too optimistic window for a given
allocated rcvspace : When receiving frames, sk_rmem_alloc can hit
sk_rcvbuf limit and we call tcp_prune_queue()/tcp_collapse() too often,
especially when application is slow to drain its receive queue or in
case of losses (netperf is fast, scp is slow). This is a major latency
source.
We should adjust the len/truesize ratio to 50% instead of 75%
This patch :
1) changes tcp_adv_win_scale default to 1 instead of 2
2) increase tcp_rmem[2] limit from 4MB to 6MB to take into account
better truesize tracking and to allow autotuning tcp receive window to
reach same value than before. Note that same amount of kernel memory is
consumed compared to 2.6 kernels.

The file Documentation/power/freezing-of-tasks.txt was still referencing
the TIF_FREEZE flag, that was removed by the commit
d88e4cb67197d007fb778d62fe17360e970d5bfa(freezer: remove now unused
TIF_FREEZE).
This patch removes all the references of TIF_FREEZE that were left
behind.
