Pull KVM changes from Avi Kivity: "Changes include additional instruction emulation, page-crossing MMIO, faster dirty logging, preventing the watchdog from killing a stopped guest, module autoload, a new MSI ABI, and some minor optimizations and fixes. Outside x86 we have a small s390 and a very large ppc update. Regarding the new (for kvm) rebaseless workflow, some of the patches that were merged before we switch trees had to be rebased, while others are true pulls. In either case the signoffs should be correct now." Fix up trivial conflicts in Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.txt arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_segment.S and arch/x86/include/asm/kvm_para.h. I suspect the kvm_para.h resolution ends up doing the "do I have cpuid" check effectively twice (it was done differently in two different commits), but better safe than sorry ;) * 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/kvm: (125 commits) KVM: make asm-generic/kvm_para.h have an ifdef __KERNEL__ block KVM: s390: onereg for timer related registers KVM: s390: epoch difference and TOD programmable field KVM: s390: KVM_GET/SET_ONEREG for s390 KVM: s390: add capability indicating COW support KVM: Fix mmu_reload() clash with nested vmx event injection KVM: MMU: Don't use RCU for lockless shadow walking KVM: VMX: Optimize %ds, %es reload KVM: VMX: Fix %ds/%es clobber KVM: x86 emulator: convert bsf/bsr instructions to emulate_2op_SrcV_nobyte() KVM: VMX: unlike vmcs on fail path KVM: PPC: Emulator: clean up SPR reads and writes KVM: PPC: Emulator: clean up instruction parsing kvm/powerpc: Add new ioctl to retreive server MMU infos kvm/book3s: Make kernel emulated H_PUT_TCE available for "PR" KVM KVM: PPC: bookehv: Fix r8/r13 storing in level exception handler KVM: PPC: Book3S: Enable IRQs during exit handling KVM: PPC: Fix PR KVM on POWER7 bare metal KVM: PPC: Fix stbux emulation KVM: PPC: bookehv: Use lwz/stw instead of PPC_LL/PPC_STL for 32-bit fields ...

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/signal Pull first series of signal handling cleanups from Al Viro: "This is just the first part of the queue (about a half of it); assorted fixes all over the place in signal handling. With this, a bunch of assorted old buglets are fixed and most of the missing bits of NOTIFY_RESUME hookup are in place. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-asm_system Pull "Disintegrate and delete asm/system.h" from David Howells: "Here are a bunch of patches to disintegrate asm/system.h into a set of separate bits to relieve the problem of circular inclusion dependencies. I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can and made sure that they don't break. The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2(). This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h. The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg. memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()). These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces: (1) asm/barrier.h Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha. (2) asm/switch_to.h Move switch_to() and related stuff here. (3) asm/exec.h Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h. (4) asm/cmpxchg.h Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg(). (5) asm/bug.h Move die() and related bits. (6) asm/auxvec.h Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here. Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis." git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux Pull <linux/bug.h> cleanup from Paul Gortmaker: "The changes shown here are to unify linux's BUG support under the one <linux/bug.h> file. Due to historical reasons, we have some BUG code in bug.h and some in kernel.h -- i.e. the support for BUILD_BUG in linux/kernel.h predates the addition of linux/bug.h, but old code in kernel.h wasn't moved to bug.h at that time. As a band-aid, kernel.h was including <asm/bug.h> to pseudo link them. This has caused confusion[1] and general yuck/WTF[2] reactions. Here is an example that violates the principle of least surprise: CC lib/string.o lib/string.c: In function 'strlcat': lib/string.c:225:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'BUILD_BUG_ON' make[2]: *** [lib/string.o] Error 1 $ $ grep linux/bug.h lib/string.c #include <linux/bug.h> $ We've included <linux/bug.h> for the BUG infrastructure and yet we still get a compile fail! [We've not kernel.h for BUILD_BUG_ON.] Ugh - very confusing for someone who is new to kernel development. With the above in mind, the goals of this changeset are: 1) find and fix any include/*.h files that were relying on the implicit presence of BUG code. 2) find and fix any C files that were consuming kernel.h and hence relying on implicitly getting some/all BUG code. 3) Move the BUG related code living in kernel.h to <linux/bug.h> 4) remove the asm/bug.h from kernel.h to finally break the chain. During development, the order was more like 3-4, build-test, 1-2. But to ensure that git history for bisect doesn't get needless build failures introduced, the commits have been reorderd to fix the problem areas in advance. 2012-03-04BUG: headers with BUG/BUG_ON etc. need linux/bug.hPaul Gortmaker
If a header file is making use of BUG, BUG_ON, BUILD_BUG_ON, or any other BUG variant in a static inline (i.e. not in a #define) then that header really should be including <linux/bug.h> and not just expecting it to be implicitly present. We can make this change risk-free, since if the files using these headers didn't have exposure to linux/bug.h already, they would have been causing compile failures/warnings. 2012-02-21sock: Introduce the SO_PEEK_OFF sock optionPavel Emelyanov
This one specifies where to start MSG_PEEK-ing queue data from. When set to negative value means that MSG_PEEK works as ususally -- peeks from the head of the queue always. When some bytes are peeked from queue and the peeking offset is non negative it is moved forward so that the next peek will return next portion of data. When non-peeking recvmsg occurs and the peeking offset is non negative is is moved backward so that the next peek will still peek the proper data (i.e. the one that would have been picked if there were no non peeking recv in between). The offset is set using per-proto opteration to let the protocol handle the locking issues and to check whether the peeking offset feature is supported by the protocol the socket belongs to. 2011-11-09net: add wireless TX status socket optionJohannes Berg
The 802.1X EAPOL handshake hostapd does requires knowing whether the frame was ack'ed by the peer. Currently, we fudge this pretty badly by not even transmitting the frame as a normal data frame but injecting it with radiotap and getting the status out of radiotap monitor as well. This is rather complex, confuses users (mon.wlan0 presence) and doesn't work with all hardware. To get rid of that hack, introduce a real wifi TX status option for data frame transmissions. This works similar to the existing TX timestamping in that it reflects the SKB back to the socket's error queue with a SCM_WIFI_STATUS cmsg that has an int indicating ACK status (0/1). Since it is possible that at some point we will want to have TX timestamping and wifi status in a single errqueue SKB (there's little point in not doing that), redefine SO_EE_ORIGIN_TIMESTAMPING to SO_EE_ORIGIN_TXSTATUS which can collect more than just the timestamp; keep the old constant as an alias of course. Currently the internal APIs don't make that possible, but it wouldn't be hard to split them up in a way that makes it possible. 2011-07-26atomic: cleanup asm-generic atomic*.h inclusionArun Sharma
After changing all consumers of atomics to include <linux/atomic.h>, we ran into some compile time errors due to this dependency chain: linux/atomic.h -> asm/atomic.h -> asm-generic/atomic-long.h where atomic-long.h could use funcs defined later in linux/atomic.h without a prototype. This patches moves the code that includes asm-generic/atomic*.h to linux/atomic.h. Archs that need <asm-generic/atomic64.h> need to select CONFIG_GENERIC_ATOMIC64 from now on (some of them used to include it unconditionally). Compile tested on i386 and x86_64 with allnoconfig. 2011-07-22asm-generic: move archictures to common delay.hJonas Bonn
This patch moves the in-tree architectures that were using the 'generic' delay.h over to using the header file in asm-generic. This is not done using the generic-y mechanism as none of these arch's have started using that mechanism yet. This is a trivial change to make later when the arch begins using generic-y. 2011-05-28ns: Wire up the setns system callEric W. Biederman
32bit and 64bit on x86 are tested and working. The rest I have looked at closely and I can't find any problems. setns is an easy system call to wire up. It just takes two ints so I don't expect any weird architecture porting problems. While doing this I have noticed that we have some architectures that are very slow to get new system calls. cris seems to be the slowest where the last system calls wired up were preadv and pwritev. avr32 is weird in that recvmmsg was wired up but never declared in unistd.h. frv is behind with perf_event_open being the last syscall wired up. On h8300 the last system call wired up was epoll_wait. On m32r the last system call wired up was fallocate. mn10300 has recvmmsg as the last system call wired up. The rest seem to at least have syncfs wired up which was new in the 2.6.39. v2: Most of the architecture support added by Daniel Lezcano <dlezcano@fr.ibm.com> v3: ported to v2.6.36-rc4 by: Eric W. 2011-05-26arch: add #define for each of optimized find bitopsAkinobu Mita
The style that we normally use in asm-generic is to test the macro itself for existence, so in asm-generic, do: #ifndef find_next_zero_bit_le extern unsigned long find_next_zero_bit_le(const void *addr, unsigned long size, unsigned long offset); #endif and in the architectures, write static inline unsigned long find_next_zero_bit_le(const void *addr, unsigned long size, unsigned long offset) #define find_next_zero_bit_le find_next_zero_bit_le This adds the #define for each of the optimized find bitops in the architectures. The ATAG_BOARDINFO is intended to hand over the information bd->bi_board_number from u-boot to the kernel. 2011-03-23bitops: remove minix bitops from asm/bitops.hAkinobu Mita
minix bit operations are only used by minix filesystem and useless by other modules. Because byte order of inode and block bitmaps is different on each architecture like below: m68k: big-endian 16bit indexed bitmaps h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu: big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps m32r, mips, sh, xtensa: big-endian 32 or 64bit indexed bitmaps for big-endian mode little-endian bitmaps for little-endian mode Others: little-endian bitmaps In order to move minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h to architecture independent code in minix filesystem, this provides two config options. CONFIG_MINIX_FS_BIG_ENDIAN_16BIT_INDEXED is only selected by m68k. CONFIG_MINIX_FS_NATIVE_ENDIAN is selected by the architectures which use native byte order bitmaps (h8300, microblaze, s390, sparc, m68knommu, m32r, mips, sh, xtensa). The architectures which always use little-endian bitmaps do not select these options. Finally, we can remove minix bit operations from asm/bitops.h for all architectures. 2010-10-07Fix IRQ flag handling namingDavid Howells
Fix the IRQ flag handling naming. In linux/irqflags.h under one configuration, it maps: local_irq_enable() -> raw_local_irq_enable() local_irq_disable() -> raw_local_irq_disable() local_irq_save() -> raw_local_irq_save() ... and under the other configuration, it maps: raw_local_irq_enable() -> local_irq_enable() raw_local_irq_disable() -> local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_save() -> local_irq_save() ... This is quite confusing. There should be one set of names expected of the arch, and this should be wrapped to give another set of names that are expected by users of this facility. Change this to have the arch provide: flags = arch_local_save_flags() flags = arch_local_irq_save() arch_local_irq_restore(flags) arch_local_irq_disable() arch_local_irq_enable() arch_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) arch_irqs_disabled() arch_safe_halt() Then linux/irqflags.h wraps these to provide: raw_local_save_flags(flags) raw_local_irq_save(flags) raw_local_irq_restore(flags) raw_local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_enable() raw_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) raw_irqs_disabled() raw_safe_halt() with type checking on the flags 'arguments', and then wraps those to provide: local_save_flags(flags) local_irq_save(flags) local_irq_restore(flags) local_irq_disable() local_irq_enable() irqs_disabled_flags(flags) irqs_disabled() safe_halt() with tracing included if enabled. 2010-08-11dma-mapping: remove dma_is_consistent APIFUJITA Tomonori
Architectures implement dma_is_consistent() in different ways (some misinterpret the definition of API in DMA-API.txt). So it hasn't been so useful for drivers. We have only one user of the API in tree. Unlikely out-of-tree drivers use the API. Even if we fix dma_is_consistent() in some architectures, it doesn't look useful at all. It was invented long ago for some old systems that can't allocate coherent memory at all. It's better to export only APIs that are definitely necessary for drivers. Let's remove this API. 2010-08-11dma-mapping: unify dma_get_cache_alignment implementationsFUJITA Tomonori
dma_get_cache_alignment returns the minimum DMA alignment. Architectures defines it as ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN (formally ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN). So we can unify dma_get_cache_alignment implementations. Note that some architectures implement dma_get_cache_alignment wrongly. dma_get_cache_alignment() should return the minimum DMA alignment. So fully-coherent architectures should return 1. This patch also fixes this issue. 2010-08-11dma-mapping: rename ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN to ARCH_DMA_MINALIGNFUJITA Tomonori
Now each architecture has the own dma_get_cache_alignment implementation. dma_get_cache_alignment returns the minimum DMA alignment. Architectures define it as ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN (it's used to make sure that malloc'ed buffer is DMA-safe; the buffer doesn't share a cache with the others). So we can unify dma_get_cache_alignment implementations. This patch: dma_get_cache_alignment() needs to know if an architecture defines ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN or not (needs to know if architecture has DMA alignment restriction). However, slab.h define ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN if architectures doesn't define it. Let's rename ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN to ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN. ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN is used only in the internals of slab/slob/slub (except for crypto). 2010-08-10tty: Add EXTPROC support for LINEMODEhyc@symas.com
This patch is against the 2.6.34 source. Paraphrased from the 1989 BSD patch by David Borman @ cray.com: These are the changes needed for the kernel to support LINEMODE in the server. There is a new bit in the termios local flag word, EXTPROC. When this bit is set, several aspects of the terminal driver are disabled. Input line editing, character echo, and mapping of signals are all disabled. This allows the telnetd to turn off these functions when in linemode, but still keep track of what state the user wants the terminal to be in. New ioctl: TIOCSIG Generate a signal to processes in the current process group of the pty. There is a new mode for packet driver, the TIOCPKT_IOCTL bit. When packet mode is turned on in the pty, and the EXTPROC bit is set, then whenever the state of the pty is changed, the next read on the master side of the pty will have the TIOCPKT_IOCTL bit set. This allows the process on the server side of the pty to know when the state of the terminal has changed; it can then issue the appropriate ioctl to retrieve the new state. Since the original BSD patches accompanied the source code for telnet I've left that reference here, but obviously the feature is useful for any remote terminal protocol, including ssh. The corresponding feature has existed in the BSD tty driver since 1989. For historical reference, a good copy of the relevant files can be found here: http://anonsvn.mit.edu/viewvc/krb5/trunk/src/appl/telnet/?pathrev=17741 Signed-off-by: Howard Chu <hyc@symas.com> Cc: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
