2010-08-03pcmcia: do not use io_req_t when calling pcmcia_request_io()Dominik Brodowski
Instead of io_req_t, drivers are now requested to fill out struct pcmcia_device *p_dev->resource[0,1] for up to two ioport ranges. After a call to pcmcia_request_io(), the ports found there are reserved, after calling pcmcia_request_configuration(), they may be used. As a fourth step, remove any remaining usages of dev_node_t from drivers: - ipwireless can be simplified a bit, as we do not need to pass around the (write-only) dev_node_t around. - avma1_cs can be simplified as well, if we only keep the minor number around as "priv" data, not a full-fledged struct. 2010-05-10pcmcia: re-work pcmcia_request_irq()Dominik Brodowski
Instead of the old pcmcia_request_irq() interface, drivers may now choose between: - calling request_irq/free_irq directly. Use the IRQ from *p_dev->irq. - use pcmcia_request_irq(p_dev, handler_t); the PCMCIA core will clean up automatically on calls to pcmcia_disable_device() or device ejection. - drivers still not capable of IRQF_SHARED (or not telling us so) may use the deprecated pcmcia_request_exclusive_irq() for the time being; they might receive a shared IRQ nonetheless. 2009-11-28pcmcia: rework the irq_req_t typedefDominik Brodowski
Most of the irq_req_t typedef'd struct can be re-worked quite easily: (1) IRQInfo2 was unused in any case, so drop it. (2) IRQInfo1 was used write-only, so drop it. (3) Instance (private data to be passed to the IRQ handler): Most PCMCIA drivers using pcmcia_request_irq() to actually register an IRQ handler set the "dev_id" to the same pointer as the "priv" pointer in struct pcmcia_device. Modify the two exceptions (ipwireless, ibmtr_cs) to also work this waym and set the IRQ handler's "dev_id" to p_dev->priv unconditionally. (4) Handler is to be of type irq_handler_t. (5) Handler != NULL already tells whether an IRQ handler is present. Therefore, we do not need the IRQ_HANDLER_PRESENT flag in irq_req_t.Attributes. 2009-11-09pcmcia: use dynamic debug infrastructure, deprecate CS_CHECK (char)Dominik Brodowski
Convert PCMCIA drivers to use the dynamic debug infrastructure, instead of requiring manual settings of PCMCIA_DEBUG. Only some rare extra debug checks in cm4000_cs.c cm4040_cs.c are now hidden behind a "#ifdef CM4000_DEBUG" or "#ifdef CM4040_DEBUG". Also, remove all usages of the CS_CHECK macro and replace them with proper Linux style calling and return value checking. The extra error reporting may be dropped, as the PCMCIA core already complains about any (non-driver-author) errors. ipwireless: Increase PPP outgoing queue size Increase default size of PPP outgoing queue. Currently set to 1, which means that a packet quickly following another pushed by PPP must wait until hardware actually sends the previous and PPP has to be waken up by ppp_wakeup(). This slows down upstream. Now PPP can push more packets at once which get buffered inside driver and pushed immediatelly to hardware when previous packet is out. Experiments show that size = 10 is quite good for all connection types (GPRS/EDGE/UMTS) and gains 4 KB/sec of upload for UMTS for batch uploads. Need for higher queue size than 10 occures in only < 0.1 % of cases. The device is manufactured by IPWireless. In some countries (for example Czech Republic, T-Mobile ISP) this card is shipped for service called UMTS 4G. It's a piece of PCMCIA "4G" UMTS PPP networking hardware that presents itself as a serial character device (i.e. looks like usual modem to userspace, accepts AT commands, etc).
