2014-12-10isdn/gigaset: enable Kernel CAPI support by defaultTilman Schmidt
Kernel CAPI has been the recommended ISDN subsystem for the Gigaset driver since kernel release 2.6.34.2. It provides full backwards compatibility to the old I4L subsystem thanks to the capidrv module. I4L has been marked as deprecated for more than seven years. 2014-10-14isdn/gigaset: fix non-heap pointer deallocationTilman Schmidt
at_state structures may be allocated individually or as part of a cardstate or bc_state structure. The disconnect() function handled both cases, creating a risk that it might try to deallocate an at_state structure that had not been allocated individually. Fix by splitting disconnect() into two variants handling cases with and without an associated B channel separately, and adding an explicit check. Spotted with Coverity. 2013-04-09procfs: new helper - PDE_DATA(inode)Al Viro

2013-03-18TTY: add tty_port_tty_wakeup helperJiri Slaby
It allows for cleaning up on a considerable amount of places. They did port_get, wakeup, kref_put. Now the only thing needed is to call tty_port_tty_wakeup which does exactly that. One exception is ifx6x60 where tty_wakeup was open-coded. We now call tty_wakeup properly there. 2013-01-18tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTYJoe Millenbach
The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway. bloat-o-meter output is below. The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than "depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies. bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by removing TTY. Now, we start converting tty buffer functions to actually use tty_port. This will allow us to get rid of the need of tty in many call sites. Only tty_port will needed and hence no more tty_port_tty_get in those paths. Now, the one where most of tty_port_tty_get gets removed: tty_flip_buffer_push. IOW we also closed all the races in drivers not using tty_port_tty_get at all yet. Also we move tty_flip_buffer_push declaration from include/linux/tty.h to include/linux/tty_flip.h to all others while we are changing it anyway. 2012-11-15TTY: call tty_port_destroy in the rest of driversJiri Slaby
After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this assumption. To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places. This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed. This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places. 2012-10-26bas_gigaset: fix pre_reset handlingTilman Schmidt
The delayed work function int_in_work() may call usb_reset_device() and thus, indirectly, the driver's pre_reset method. Trying to cancel the work synchronously in that situation would deadlock. Fix by avoiding cancel_work_sync() in the pre_reset method. If the reset was NOT initiated by int_in_work() this might cause int_in_work() to run after the post_reset method, with urb_int_in already resubmitted, so handle that case gracefully. 2012-08-13TTY: use tty_port_register_deviceJiri Slaby
Currently we have no way to assign tty->port while performing tty installation. There are two ways to provide the link tty_struct => tty_port. Either by calling tty_port_install from tty->ops->install or tty_port_register_device called instead of tty_register_device when the device is being set up after connected. In this patch we modify most of the drivers to do the latter. When the drivers use tty_register_device and we have tty_port already, we switch to tty_port_register_device. So we have the tty_struct => tty_port link for free for those. There were some build errors in the tree that linux-next found a few days ago, but those were fixed by the most recent changes (all were due to us not building with CONFIG_PM disabled.) Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished. Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state, using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their data transfer. If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the middle of receiving a transmission. The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the same in Linux. Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do.
