2011-06-23iwlegacy: fix channel switch lockingStanislaw Gruszka
commit 51e65257142a87fe46a1ce5c35c86c5baf012614 upstream. We use priv->mutex to avoid race conditions between chswitch_done() and mac_channel_switch(), when marking channel switch in progress. But chswitch_done() can be called in atomic context from rx_csa() or with mutex already taken from commit_rxon(). 2011-06-23iwl4965: set tx power after rxon_assocStanislaw Gruszka
commit 51892dbbd511911c0f965a36b431fc3e8f1e4f8a upstream. Setting tx power can be deferred during scan or changing channel. If after that correct tx power settings will not be sent to device, we can observe transmission problems and timeouts. Force to send tx power settings also after partial rxon change, to assure device always be configured with up-to-date settings. If after that temperature value will not be updated to good one, we badly configure tx power parameters and device is unable to send a data. We should not switch to non-IBSS channels when working in IBSS mode, otherwise there are microcode errors, and after some time system crashes. On current kernels I do not observe practical problems related with bug, but on 2.6.35.y it cause random system hangs when stressing wireless link, making bisection of other problems impossible. priv->tx_power_next is not initialized to max supported power, but instead default value is used, what cause errors like [ 58.597834] iwl3945 0000:03:00.0: Requested user TXPOWER 15 above upper limit 14. [ 58.597839] iwl3945 0000:03:00.0: Error setting Tx power (-22). if maximum tx power read from the eeprom is smaller than default. In consequence card is unable to initialize properly. After new NetworkManager 0.8.996 changes, hardware scanning is causing microcode errors as reported here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=683571 and sometimes kernel crashes: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688252 Also with hw scan there are very bad performance on some systems as reported here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=671366 Since Intel no longer supports 3945, there is no chance to get proper firmware fixes, we need workaround problems by disable hardware scanning by default. 2011-02-25mac80211: make tx() operation return voidJohannes Berg
The return value of the tx operation is commonly misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and they must also properly manage the queues (if they didn't, mac80211 would already warn). Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY value also allows significant cleanups of the TX TX handling code in mac80211. Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the old "return -1" there was wrong. 2011-02-21iwlwifi: split the drivers for agn and legacy devices 3945/4965Wey-Yi Guy
Intel WiFi devices 3945 and 4965 now have their own driver in the folder drivers/net/wireless/iwlegacy Add support to build these drivers independently of the driver for AGN devices. Selecting the 3945 builds iwl3945.ko and iwl_legacy.ko, and selecting the 4965 builds iwl4965.ko and iwl_legacy.ko. iwl-legacy.ko contains code shared between both devices. The 3945 is an ABG/BG device, with no support for 802.11n. The 4965 is a 2x3 ABGN device.
