2015-05-04compal-laptop: Check return value of power_supply_registerKrzysztof Kozlowski
commit 1915a718b1872edffcb13e5436a9f7302d3d36f0 upstream. The return value of power_supply_register() call was not checked and even on error probe() function returned 0. If registering failed then during unbind the driver tried to unregister power supply which was not actually registered. This could lead to memory corruption because power_supply_unregister() unconditionally cleans up given power supply. Fix this by checking return status of power_supply_register() call. In case of failure, clean up sysfs entries and fail the probe. But, it'll lead to bt status error if asus-wmi driver controls bt as well. So, for X200CA, asus-wmi driver controls wifi status only and have to set wapf to 1. We've observed the missing pvpanic call at panic, and it turned out that this was blocked by the broken notifier of drm_fb_helper, where scheduling may be called during switching to the fb console. It's fairly difficult to fix the drm_fb problem and a quick fix isn't foreseen, a simpler solution for the missing pvpanic call would be just to call this earlier. In order to assure that, this patch sets a higher priority to pvpanic notifier_block. Once when the issue of drm_fb is resolved, we can remove this priority again. 2014-11-13acer-wmi: Add acpi_backlight=video quirk for the Acer KAV80Hans de Goede

The acpi-video backlight interface on the Acer KAV80 is broken, and worse it causes the entire machine to slow down significantly after a suspend/resume. Blacklist it, and use the acer-wmi backlight interface instead. Note that the KAV80 is somewhat unique in that it is the only Acer model where we fall back to acer-wmi after blacklisting, rather then using the native (e.g. intel) backlight driver. This is done because there is no native backlight interface on this model. Do not touch keyboard backlight unless explicitly passed a module parameter. In this way we won't make wrong assumptions about what are good default values since they actually are different from model to model. The only side effect is that we won't know what is the current value until set via the sysfs attributes. Being a low-level component, various drivers (e.g. olpc-battery) assume that it is ok to communicate with the OLPC Embedded Controller during probe. Therefore the OLPC EC driver must be initialised before other drivers try to use it. This was the case until it was recently moved out of arch/x86 and restructured around commits ac2504151f5a ("Platform: OLPC: turn EC driver into a platform_driver") and 85f90cf6ca56 ("x86: OLPC: switch over to using new EC driver on x86"). Use arch_initcall so that olpc-ec is readied earlier, matching the previous behaviour. Fixes a regression introduced in Linux-3.6 where various drivers such as olpc-battery and olpc-xo1-sci failed to load due to an inability to communicate with the EC. Intel Smart Connect is an Intel-specific ACPI interface for configuring devices to wake up at regular intervals so they can pull down mail or other internet updates, and then go to sleep again. If a user enables this in Windows and then reboots into Linux, the device may wake up if it's put to sleep. Since there's no Linux userland support for any of this, the machine will then remain awake until something else puts it back to sleep. I haven't figured out all that much about how this works (there's a bunch of different ACPI calls available on the device), but this seems to be enough to turn it off. We can add more features to this driver if anyone ever cares about figuring out what the rest of the calls do or writing some Linux userspace to implement the rest of it.
