2010-08-10ssb: Handle alternate SSPROM locationLarry Finger

In kernel Bugzilla #15825 (2 users), in a wireless mailing list thread (http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/b43-dev/2010-May/000124.html), and on a netbook owned by John Linville (http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=127230751408818&w=4), there are reports of ssb failing to detect an SPROM at the normal location. After studying the MMIO trace dump for the Broadcom wl driver, it was determined that the affected boxes had a relocated SPROM. This patch fixes all systems that have reported this problem. It assumes base offset is 0x1000 but it will work for now as we make offsets relative anyway by removing base 0x1000. Should be cleaner however. 2010-08-10ssb: do not read SPROM if it does not existJohn W. Linville
commit d53cdbb94a52a920d5420ed64d986c3523a56743 upstream. Attempting to read registers that don't exist on the SSB bus can cause hangs on some boxes. At least some b43 devices are 'in the wild' that don't have SPROMs at all. When the SSB bus support loads, it attempts to read these (non-existant) SPROMs and causes hard hangs on the box -- no console output, etc. This patch adds some intelligence to determine whether or not the SPROM is present before attempting to read it. This avoids those hard hangs on those devices with no SPROM attached to their SSB bus. The SSB-attached devices (e.g. b43, et al.) won't work, but at least the box will survive to test further patches. :-) Signed-off-by: John W. 2010-08-02ssb: Handle Netbook devices where the SPROM address is changedChristoph Fritz
For some Netbook computers with Broadcom BCM4312 wireless interfaces, the SPROM has been moved to a new location. When the ssb driver tries to read the old location, the systems hangs when trying to read a non-existent location. Such freezes are particularly bad as they do not log the failure. This patch is modified from commit da1fdb02d9200ff28b6f3a380d21930335fe5429 with some pieces from other mainline changes so that it can be applied to stable 2.6.34.Y. This fixes the check and also adds much better sanity checks to the code. We better make sure the image is OK by doing some sanity checks to avoid bricking the device by accident. 2009-07-03MIPS: BC47xx: Fix SSB irq setupmatthieu castet
The current ssb irq setup in ssb_mipscore_init has the problem that it configures some device on some irq without checking that the irq is not taken by an other device. For example in my case PCI host is on irq 0 and IPSEC on irq 3. The current code: - store in dev->irq that IPSEC irq is 3 + 2 - do a set_irq 0->3 on PCI host But now IPSEC irq is not routed anymore to the mips code and dev->irq is wrong. This causes a problem described in [1]. This patch tries to solve the problem by making set_irq configure the device we want to take the irq on the shared irq0. The previous example becomes: - store in dev->irq that IPSEC irq is 3 + 2 - do a set_irq 0->3 on PCI host: - irq 3 is already taken by IPSEC. do a set_irq 3->0 on IPSEC I also added some code to print the irq configuration after irq setup to allow easier debugging. And I add extra checking in ssb_mips_irq to report device without irq or device with not routed irq. 2008-11-21ssb: struct device - replace bus_id with dev_name(), dev_set_name()Kay Sievers
This patch is part of a larger patch series which will remove the "char bus_id[20]" name string from struct device. The device name is managed in the kobject anyway, and without any size limitation, and just needlessly copied into "struct device". To set and read the device name dev_name(dev) and dev_set_name(dev) must be used. If your code uses static kobjects, which it shouldn't do, "const char *init_name" can be used to statically provide the name the registered device should have. At registration time, the init_name field is cleared, to enforce the use of dev_name(dev) to access the device name at a later time. We need to get rid of all occurrences of bus_id in the entire tree to be able to enable the new interface. Please apply this patch, and possibly convert any remaining remaining occurrences of bus_id. We want to submit a patch to -next, which will remove bus_id from "struct device", to find the remaining pieces to convert, and finally switch over to the new api, which will remove the 20 bytes array and does no longer have a size limitation. 2008-08-29ssb: Clean up extraction of MAC addresses from SPROMLarry Finger
Only rev 1 and 2 ssb SPROMs have fields named et0mac and et1mac; however, all of the extraction routines extract pseudo data for these fields from regions that are all 1's resulting in a hardware address of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. This patch forces such a fill at the beginning of the data extraction process, and only does the formal extraction if the SPROM rev is 1 or 2. The current code checks for the special signature that signifies a revision 4 SPROM. Now that a rev. 8 SPROM with a 440-byte length has been found that may not have any special code, this check could be relaxed. With this patch, if the CRC is incorrect for a 256-byte SPROM, the code will immediately check for a 440-byte SPROM. If there is still a CRC error, the size is set to 440 bytes, which allows dumping of most of any 512-byte SPROM if one is encountered. In the SSB SPROM a field set to all ones means the value is not defined in the SPROM. In case of the boardflags, we need to set them to zero to avoid confusing drivers. Drivers will only check the flags by ANDing. 2008-04-15ssb: Fix usage of struct device used for DMAingMichael Buesch
This fixes DMA on architectures where DMA is nontrivial, like PPC64. We must use the host-device's (PCI) struct device for any DMA operation instead of the SSB device. For this we add a new struct device pointer to the SSB device structure that will always point to the right device for DMAing. Without this patch b43 and b44 drivers won't work on complex-DMA architectures, that for example need dev->archdata for DMA operations.
