2019-02-13ocfs2/dlm: return DLM_CANCELGRANT if the lock is on granted list and the ↵Jian Wang
operation is canceled In dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list(), if the lock is in the granted queue and cancel_pending is set, it will encounter a BUG. I think this is a meaningless BUG, so be prepared to remove it. A scenario that causes this BUG will be given below. At the beginning, Node 1 is the master and has NL lock, Node 2 has PR lock, Node 3 has PR lock too. Node 1 Node 2 Node 3 want to get EX lock. want to get EX lock. Node 3 hinder Node 2 to get EX lock, send Node 3 a BAST. receive BAST from Node 1. downconvert thread begin to cancel PR to EX conversion. In dlmunlock_common function, downconvert thread has set lock->cancel_pending, but did not enter dlm_send_remote_unlock_request function. Node2 dies because the host is powered down. In recovery process, clean the lock that related to Node2. then finish Node 3 PR to EX request. give Node 3 a AST. receive AST from Node 1. change lock level to EX, move lock to granted list. Node1 dies because the host is powered down. In dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list function. the lock is in the granted queue and cancel_pending is set. BUG_ON. But after clearing this BUG, process will encounter the second BUG in the ocfs2_unlock_ast function. Here is a scenario that will cause the second BUG in ocfs2_unlock_ast as follows: At the beginning, Node 1 is the master and has NL lock, Node 2 has PR lock, Node 3 has PR lock too. Node 1 Node 2 Node 3 want to get EX lock. want to get EX lock. Node 3 hinder Node 2 to get EX lock, send Node 3 a BAST. receive BAST from Node 1. downconvert thread begin to cancel PR to EX conversion. In dlmunlock_common function, downconvert thread has released lock->spinlock and res->spinlock, but did not enter dlm_send_remote_unlock_request function. Node2 dies because the host is powered down. In recovery process, clean the lock that related to Node2. then finish Node 3 PR to EX request. give Node 3 a AST. receive AST from Node 1. change lock level to EX, move lock to granted list, set lockres->l_unlock_action as OCFS2_UNLOCK_INVALID in ocfs2_locking_ast function. Node2 dies because the host is powered down. Node 3 realize that Node 1 is dead, remove Node 1 from domain_map. downconvert thread get DLM_NORMAL from dlm_send_remote_unlock_request function and set *call_ast as 1. Then downconvert thread meet BUG in ocfs2_unlock_ast function. To avoid meet the second BUG, dlmunlock_common() should return DLM_CANCELGRANT if the lock is on granted list and the operation is canceled. Node1 dies because the host is powered down. in dlmunlock_common function, the downconvert thread set cancel_pending. at the same time, Node3 realized that Node 1 is dead, so move lock_3 back to granted list in dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list function and remove Node 1 from the domain_map in __dlm_hb_node_down function. then downconvert thread failed to send the lock cancellation request to Node1 and return DLM_NORMAL from dlm_send_remote_unlock_request function. become recovery master. during the recovery process, send lock_2 that is converting form PR to EX to Node4. during the recovery process, send lock_3 in the granted list and cantain the DLM_LKSB_GET_LVB flag to Node4. Then downconvert thread delete DLM_LKSB_GET_LVB flag in dlmunlock_common function. Node4 finish recovery. the mode of lock_3 is PR, which blocks the conversion request of Node2, so send BAST to Node3. receive BAST from Node4. convert lock_3 from PR to NL. change the mode of lock_3 from PR to NL and send message to Node3. receive message from Node4. The message contain LKM_GET_LVB flag, but the lock->lksb->flags does not contain DLM_LKSB_GET_LVB, BUG_ON in dlm_proxy_ast_handler function. dlm_move_lockres_to_recovery_list() should clean DLM_LKSB_GET_LVB and DLM_LKSB_PUT_LVB when the cancel_pending is set. The reasons for clearing the these flags are as follows. First, The owner of the lock resource may have died, the lock has been moved to the grant queue, the purpose of the lock cancellation has been reached, and the LVB flag should be cleared. 2019-02-13ocfs2: clear zero in unaligned direct IOJia Guo
Unused portion of a part-written fs-block-sized block is not set to zero in unaligned append direct write.This can lead to serious data inconsistencies. Ocfs2 manage disk with cluster size(for example, 1M), part-written in one cluster will change the cluster state from UN-WRITTEN to WRITTEN, VFS(function dio_zero_block) doesn't do the cleaning because bh's state is not set to NEW in function ocfs2_dio_wr_get_block when we write a WRITTEN cluster. For example, the cluster size is 1M, file size is 8k and we direct write from 14k to 15k, then 12k~14k and 15k~16k will contain dirty data. We have to deal with two cases: 1.The starting position of direct write is outside the file. 2.The starting position of direct write is located in the file. We need set bh's state to NEW in the first case. In the second case, we need mapped twice because bh's state of area out file should be set to NEW while area in file not. 2019-02-13ocfs2: Use zero-sized array and struct_size() in kzalloc()Gustavo A. R. Silva
Update the code to use a zero-sized array instead of a pointer in structure ocfs2_slot_info and use struct_size() in kzalloc(). Notice that one of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct foo { int stuff; void *entry[]; }; instance = kzalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + sizeof(void *) * count, GFP_KERNEL); Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now use the new struct_size() helper: instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL); This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle. 2019-02-13ocfs2: fix the application IO timeout when fstrim is runningGang He
The user reported this problem, the upper application IO was timeout when fstrim was running on this ocfs2 partition. the application monitoring resource agent considered that this application did not work, then this node was fenced by the cluster brain (e.g. pacemaker). The root cause is that fstrim thread always holds main_bm meta-file related locks until all the cluster groups are trimmed. This patch will make fstrim thread release main_bm meta-file related locks when each cluster group is trimmed, this will let the current application IO has a chance to claim the clusters from main_bm meta-file. 2019-02-13ocfs2: fix a panic problem caused by o2cb_ctlJia Guo
In the process of creating a node, it will cause NULL pointer dereference in kernel if o2cb_ctl failed in the interval (mkdir, o2cb_set_node_attribute(node_num)] in function o2cb_add_node. The node num is initialized to 0 in function o2nm_node_group_make_item, o2nm_node_group_drop_item will mistake the node number 0 for a valid node number when we delete the node before the node number is set correctly. If the local node number of the current host happens to be 0, cluster->cl_local_node will be set to O2NM_INVALID_NODE_NUM while o2hb_thread still running. 2019-01-03Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() functionLinus Torvalds
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand. It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact. A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's just get this done once and for all. This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form. There were a couple of notable cases: - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias. - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing really used it) - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch. I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed something. 2018-12-28ocfs2: don't clear bh uptodate for block readJunxiao Bi
For sync io read in ocfs2_read_blocks_sync(), first clear bh uptodate flag and submit the io, second wait io done, last check whether bh uptodate, if not return io error. If two sync io for the same bh were issued, it could be the first io done and set uptodate flag, but just before check that flag, the second io came in and cleared uptodate, then ocfs2_read_blocks_sync() for the first io will return IO error. Indeed it's not necessary to clear uptodate flag, as the io end handler end_buffer_read_sync() will set or clear it based on io succeed or failed. The following message was found from a nfs server but the underlying storage returned no error. 2018-12-28ocfs2: clear journal dirty flag after shutdown journalJunxiao Bi
Dirty flag of the journal should be cleared at the last stage of umount, if do it before jbd2_journal_destroy(), then some metadata in uncommitted transaction could be lost due to io error, but as dirty flag of journal was already cleared, we can't find that until run a full fsck. This may cause system panic or other corruption. 2018-12-28ocfs2: fix panic due to unrecovered local allocJunxiao Bi
mount.ocfs2 ignore the inconsistent error that journal is clean but local alloc is unrecovered. After mount, local alloc not empty, then reserver cluster didn't alloc a new local alloc window, reserveration map is empty(ocfs2_reservation_map.m_bitmap_len = 0), that triggered the following panic. This issue was reported at https://oss.oracle.com/pipermail/ocfs2-devel/2015-May/010854.html and was advised to fixed during mount. But this is a very unusual inconsistent state, usually journal dirty flag should be cleared at the last stage of umount until every other things go right. We may need do further debug to check that. Any way to avoid possible futher corruption, mount should be abort and fsck should be run. ocfs2_defrag_extent may fall into deadlock. ocfs2_ioctl_move_extents ocfs2_ioctl_move_extents ocfs2_move_extents ocfs2_defrag_extent ocfs2_lock_allocators_move_extents ocfs2_reserve_clusters inode_lock GLOBAL_BITMAP_SYSTEM_INODE __ocfs2_flush_truncate_log inode_lock GLOBAL_BITMAP_SYSTEM_INODE As backtrace shows above, ocfs2_reserve_clusters() will call inode_lock against the global bitmap if local allocator has not sufficient cluters. Once global bitmap could meet the demand, ocfs2_reserve_cluster will return success with global bitmap locked. After ocfs2_reserve_cluster(), if truncate log is full, __ocfs2_flush_truncate_log() will definitely fall into deadlock because it needs to inode_lock global bitmap, which has already been locked. To fix this bug, we could remove from ocfs2_lock_allocators_move_extents() the code which intends to lock global allocator, and put the removed code after __ocfs2_flush_truncate_log(). ocfs2_lock_allocators_move_extents() is referred by 2 places, one is here, the other does not need the data allocator context, which means this patch does not affect the caller so far. 2018-11-03ocfs2: dlmglue: clean up timestamp handlingArnd Bergmann
The handling of timestamps outside of the 1970..2038 range in the dlm glue is rather inconsistent: on 32-bit architectures, this has always wrapped around to negative timestamps in the 1902..1969 range, while on 64-bit kernels all timestamps are interpreted as positive 34 bit numbers in the 1970..2514 year range. Now that the VFS code handles 64-bit timestamps on all architectures, we can make the behavior more consistent here, and return the same result that we had on 64-bit already, making the file system y2038 safe in the process. Outside of dlmglue, it already uses 64-bit on-disk timestamps anway, so that part is fine. For consistency, I'm changing ocfs2_pack_timespec() to clamp anything outside of the supported range to the minimum and maximum values. This avoids a possible ambiguity of values before 1970 in particular, which used to be interpreted as times at the end of the 2514 range previously. 2018-11-03ocfs2: don't put and assigning null to bh allocated outsideChangwei Ge
ocfs2_read_blocks() and ocfs2_read_blocks_sync() are both used to read several blocks from disk. Currently, the input argument *bhs* can be NULL or NOT. It depends on the caller's behavior. If the function fails in reading blocks from disk, the corresponding bh will be assigned to NULL and put. Obviously, above process for non-NULL input bh is not appropriate. Because the caller doesn't even know its bhs are put and re-assigned. If buffer head is managed by caller, ocfs2_read_blocks and ocfs2_read_blocks_sync() should not evaluate it to NULL. It will cause caller accessing illegal memory, thus crash. 2018-11-03ocfs2: fix a misuse a of brelse after failing ocfs2_check_dir_entryChangwei Ge
Somehow, file system metadata was corrupted, which causes ocfs2_check_dir_entry() to fail in function ocfs2_dir_foreach_blk_el(). According to the original design intention, if above happens we should skip the problematic block and continue to retrieve dir entry. But there is obviouse misuse of brelse around related code. After failure of ocfs2_check_dir_entry(), current code just moves to next position and uses the problematic buffer head again and again during which the problematic buffer head is released for multiple times. I suppose, this a serious issue which is long-lived in ocfs2. This may cause other file systems which is also used in a the same host insane. So we should also consider about bakcporting this patch into linux -stable. When -EIOCBQUEUED returns, it means that aio_complete() will be called from dio_complete(), which is an asynchronous progress against write_iter. Generally, IO is a very slow progress than executing instruction, but we still can't take the risk to access a freed iocb. And we do face a BUG crash issue. Pull vfs dedup fixes from Dave Chinner: "This reworks the vfs data cloning infrastructure. We discovered many issues with these interfaces late in the 4.19 cycle - the worst of them (data corruption, setuid stripping) were fixed for XFS in 4.19-rc8, but a larger rework of the infrastructure fixing all the problems was needed. That rework is the contents of this pull request. Rework the vfs_clone_file_range and vfs_dedupe_file_range infrastructure to use a common .remap_file_range method and supply generic bounds and sanity checking functions that are shared with the data write path. The current VFS infrastructure has problems with rlimit, LFS file sizes, file time stamps, maximum filesystem file sizes, stripping setuid bits, etc and so they are addressed in these commits. We also introduce the ability for the ->remap_file_range methods to return short clones so that clones for vfs_copy_file_range() don't get rejected if the entire range can't be cloned. It also allows filesystems to sliently skip deduplication of partial EOF blocks if they are not capable of doing so without requiring errors to be thrown to userspace. 2018-10-30ocfs2: fix pagecache truncation prior to reflinkDarrick J. Wong
Prior to remapping blocks, it is necessary to remove pages from the destination file's page cache. Unfortunately, the truncation is not aggressive enough -- if page size > block size, we'll end up zeroing subpage blocks instead of removing them. 2018-10-30vfs: make remap_file_range functions take and return bytes completedDarrick J. Wong
Change the remap_file_range functions to take a number of bytes to operate upon and return the number of bytes they operated on. This is a requirement for allowing fs implementations to return short clone/dedupe results to the user, which will enable us to obey resource limits in a graceful manner. A subsequent patch will enable copy_file_range to signal to the ->clone_file_range implementation that it can handle a short length, which will be returned in the function's return value. For now the short return is not implemented anywhere so the behavior won't change -- either copy_file_range manages to clone the entire range or it tries an alternative. 2018-10-24iov_iter: Separate type from direction and use accessor functionsDavid Howells
In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places. Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions. Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function. The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required. 2018-10-05ocfs2: fix locking for res->tracking and dlm->tracking_listAshish Samant
In dlm_init_lockres() we access and modify res->tracking and dlm->tracking_list without holding dlm->track_lock. This can cause list corruptions and can end up in kernel panic.
