2022-04-20ubifs: setflags: Make dirtied_ino_d 8 bytes alignedZhihao Cheng
commit 1b83ec057db16b4d0697dc21ef7a9743b6041f72 upstream. Make 'ui->data_len' aligned with 8 bytes before it is assigned to dirtied_ino_d. Since 8871d84c8f8b0c6b("ubifs: convert to fileattr") applied, 'setflags()' only affects regular files and directories, only xattr inode, symlink inode and special inode(pipe/char_dev/block_dev) have none- zero 'ui->data_len' field, so assertion '!(req->dirtied_ino_d & 7)' cannot fail in ubifs_budget_space(). To avoid assertion fails in future evolution(eg. setflags can operate special inodes), it's better to make dirtied_ino_d 8 bytes aligned, after all aligned size is still zero for regular files. 2021-01-17ubifs: wbuf: Don't leak kernel memory to flashRichard Weinberger
commit 20f1431160c6b590cdc269a846fc5a448abf5b98 upstream Write buffers use a kmalloc()'ed buffer, they can leak up to seven bytes of kernel memory to flash if writes are not aligned. So use ubifs_pad() to fill these gaps with padding bytes. This was never a problem while scanning because the scanner logic manually aligns node lengths and skips over these gaps. 2020-10-01ubifs: Fix out-of-bounds memory access caused by abnormal value of node_lenLiu Song
[ Upstream commit acc5af3efa303d5f36cc8c0f61716161f6ca1384 ] In “ubifs_check_node”, when the value of "node_len" is abnormal, the code will goto label of "out_len" for execution. Then, in the following "ubifs_dump_node", if inode type is "UBIFS_DATA_NODE", in "print_hex_dump", an out-of-bounds access may occur due to the wrong "ch->len". Therefore, when the value of "node_len" is abnormal, data length should to be adjusted to a reasonable safe range. At this time, structured data is not credible, so dump the corrupted data directly for analysis. 2020-02-14ubifs: Fix deadlock in concurrent bulk-read and writepageZhihao Cheng
[ Upstream commit f5de5b83303e61b1f3fb09bd77ce3ac2d7a475f2 ] In ubifs, concurrent execution of writepage and bulk read on the same file may cause ABBA deadlock, for example (Reproduce method see Link): Process A(Bulk-read starts from page4) Process B(write page4 back) vfs_read wb_workfn or fsync ... ... generic_file_buffered_read write_cache_pages ubifs_readpage LOCK(page4) ubifs_bulk_read ubifs_writepage LOCK(ui->ui_mutex) ubifs_write_inode ubifs_do_bulk_read LOCK(ui->ui_mutex) find_or_create_page(alloc page4) ↑ LOCK(page4) <-- ABBA deadlock occurs! In order to ensure the serialization execution of bulk read, we can't remove the big lock 'ui->ui_mutex' in ubifs_bulk_read(). Instead, we allow ubifs_do_bulk_read() to lock page failed by replacing find_or_create_page(FGP_LOCK) with pagecache_get_page(FGP_LOCK | FGP_NOWAIT). 2020-02-14ubifs: Change gfp flags in page allocation for bulk readHyunchul Lee
[ Upstream commit 480a1a6a3ef6fb6be4cd2f37b34314fbf64867dd ] In low memory situations, page allocations for bulk read can kill applications for reclaiming memory, and print an failure message when allocations are failed. Because bulk read is just an optimization, we don't have to do these and can stop page allocations. Though this siutation happens rarely, add __GFP_NORETRY to prevent from excessive memory reclaim and killing applications, and __GFP_WARN to suppress this failure message. For this, Use readahead_gfp_mask for gfp flags when allocating pages. 2018-12-29ubifs: Handle re-linking of inodes correctly while recoveryRichard Weinberger
commit e58725d51fa8da9133f3f1c54170aa2e43056b91 upstream. UBIFS's recovery code strictly assumes that a deleted inode will never come back, therefore it removes all data which belongs to that inode as soon it faces an inode with link count 0 in the replay list. Before O_TMPFILE this assumption was perfectly fine. With O_TMPFILE it can lead to data loss upon a power-cut. Consider a journal with entries like: 0: inode X (nlink = 0) /* O_TMPFILE was created */ 1: data for inode X /* Someone writes to the temp file */ 2: inode X (nlink = 0) /* inode was changed, xattr, chmod, … */ 3: inode X (nlink = 1) /* inode was re-linked via linkat() */ Upon replay of entry #2 UBIFS will drop all data that belongs to inode X, this will lead to an empty file after mounting. As solution for this problem, scan the replay list for a re-link entry before dropping data. 2017-07-27ubifs: Don't leak kernel memory to the MTDRichard Weinberger
commit 4acadda74ff8b949c448c0282765ae747e088c87 upstream. When UBIFS prepares data structures which will be written to the MTD it ensues that their lengths are multiple of 8. Since it uses kmalloc() the padded bytes are left uninitialized and we leak a few bytes of kernel memory to the MTD. To make sure that all bytes are initialized, let's switch to kzalloc(). Kzalloc() is fine in this case because the buffers are not huge and in the IO path the performance bottleneck is anyway the MTD. commit 32fe905c17f001c0eee13c59afddd0bf2eed509c upstream. It is perfectly fine to link a tmpfile back using linkat(). Since tmpfiles are created with a link count of 0 they appear on the orphan list, upon re-linking the inode has to be removed from the orphan list again. Ralph faced a filesystem corruption in combination with overlayfs due to this bug. 2017-01-26ubifs: Fix journal replay wrt. xattr nodesRichard Weinberger
commit 1cb51a15b576ee325d527726afff40947218fd5e upstream. When replaying the journal it can happen that a journal entry points to a garbage collected node. This is the case when a power-cut occurred between a garbage collect run and a commit. In such a case nodes have to be read using the failable read functions to detect whether the found node matches what we expect. One corner case was forgotten, when the journal contains an entry to remove an inode all xattrs have to be removed too. UBIFS models xattr like directory entries, so the TNC code iterates over all xattrs of the inode and removes them too. This code re-uses the functions for walking directories and calls ubifs_tnc_next_ent(). ubifs_tnc_next_ent() expects to be used only after the journal and aborts when a node does not match the expected result. This behavior can render an UBIFS volume unmountable after a power-cut when xattrs are used. Fix this issue by using failable read functions in ubifs_tnc_next_ent() too when replaying the journal. 2016-10-28ubifs: Fix regression in ubifs_readdir()Richard Weinberger

2016-10-20ubifs: Abort readdir upon errorRichard Weinberger
If UBIFS is facing an error while walking a directory, it reports this error and ubifs_readdir() returns the error code. But the VFS readdir logic does not make the getdents system call fail in all cases. When the readdir cursor indicates that more entries are present, the system call will just return and the libc wrapper will try again since it also knows that more entries are present. This causes the libc wrapper to busy loop for ever when a directory is corrupted on UBIFS. A common approach do deal with corrupted directory entries is skipping them by setting the cursor to the next entry. On UBIFS this approach is not possible since we cannot compute the next directory entry cursor position without reading the current entry. So all we can do is setting the cursor to the "no more entries" position and make getdents exit. Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Richard Weinberger <richard@nod.at>
