2023-08-30bpftool: Fix build warnings with -Wtype-limitsYafang Shao
Quentin reported build warnings when building bpftool : link.c: In function ‘perf_config_hw_cache_str’: link.c:86:18: warning: comparison of unsigned expression in ‘>= 0’ is always true [-Wtype-limits] 86 | if ((id) >= 0 && (id) < ARRAY_SIZE(array)) \ | ^~ link.c:320:20: note: in expansion of macro ‘perf_event_name’ 320 | hw_cache = perf_event_name(evsel__hw_cache, config & 0xff); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [... more of the same for the other calls to perf_event_name ...] He also pointed out the reason and the solution: We're always passing unsigned, so it should be safe to drop the check on (id) >= 0. 2023-08-16bpftool: Implement link show support for xdpDaniel Borkmann
Add support to dump XDP link information to bpftool. This reuses the recently added show_link_ifindex_{plain,json}(). The XDP link info only exposes the ifindex. Below shows an example link dump output, and a cgroup link is included for comparison, too: # bpftool link [...] 10: cgroup prog 2466 cgroup_id 1 attach_type cgroup_inet6_post_bind [...] 16: xdp prog 2477 ifindex enp5s0(3) [...] Equivalent json output: # bpftool link --json [...] { "id": 10, "type": "cgroup", "prog_id": 2466, "cgroup_id": 1, "attach_type": "cgroup_inet6_post_bind" }, [...] { "id": 16, "type": "xdp", "prog_id": 2477, "devname": "enp5s0", "ifindex": 3 } [...] Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> Reviewed-by: Quentin Monnet <quentin@isovalent.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230816095651.10014-2-daniel@iogearbox.net Signed-off-by: Martin KaFai Lau <martin.lau@kernel.org>
2023-08-16bpftool: Implement link show support for tcxDaniel Borkmann
Add support to dump tcx link information to bpftool. This adds a common helper show_link_ifindex_{plain,json}() which can be reused also for other link types. The plain text and json device output is the same format as in bpftool net dump. Below shows an example link dump output along with a cgroup link for comparison: # bpftool link [...] 10: cgroup prog 1977 cgroup_id 1 attach_type cgroup_inet6_post_bind [...] 13: tcx prog 2053 ifindex enp5s0(3) attach_type tcx_ingress 14: tcx prog 2080 ifindex enp5s0(3) attach_type tcx_egress [...] Equivalent json output: # bpftool link --json [...] { "id": 10, "type": "cgroup", "prog_id": 1977, "cgroup_id": 1, "attach_type": "cgroup_inet6_post_bind" }, [...] { "id": 13, "type": "tcx", "prog_id": 2053, "devname": "enp5s0", "ifindex": 3, "attach_type": "tcx_ingress" }, { "id": 14, "type": "tcx", "prog_id": 2080, "devname": "enp5s0", "ifindex": 3, "attach_type": "tcx_egress" } [...] Suggested-by: Yafang Shao <laoar.shao@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Daniel Borkmann <daniel@iogearbox.net> Reviewed-by: Quentin Monnet <quentin@isovalent.com> Acked-by: Yafang Shao <laoar.shao@gmail.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230816095651.10014-1-daniel@iogearbox.net Signed-off-by: Martin KaFai Lau <martin.lau@kernel.org>

2023-07-19bpftool: Extend net dump with tcx progsDaniel Borkmann
Add support to dump fd-based attach types via bpftool. This includes both the tc BPF link and attach ops programs. Dumped information contain the attach location, function entry name, program ID and link ID when applicable. Example with tc BPF link: # ./bpftool net xdp: tc: bond0(4) tcx/ingress cil_from_netdev prog_id 784 link_id 10 bond0(4) tcx/egress cil_to_netdev prog_id 804 link_id 11 flow_dissector: netfilter: Example with tc BPF attach ops: # ./bpftool net xdp: tc: bond0(4) tcx/ingress cil_from_netdev prog_id 654 bond0(4) tcx/egress cil_to_netdev prog_id 672 flow_dissector: netfilter: Currently, permanent flags are not yet supported, so 'unknown' ones are dumped via NET_DUMP_UINT_ONLY() and once we do have permanent ones, we dump them as human readable string. 2023-07-12bpftool: Use "fallthrough;" keyword instead of commentsQuentin Monnet
After using "__fallthrough;" in a switch/case block in bpftool's btf_dumper.c [0], and then turning it into a comment [1] to prevent a merge conflict in linux-next when the keyword was changed into just "fallthrough;" [2], we can now drop the comment and use the new keyword, no underscores. 2023-05-23bpftool: Specify XDP Hints ifname when loading programLarysa Zaremba
Add ability to specify a network interface used to resolve XDP hints kfuncs when loading program through bpftool. Usage: bpftool prog load [...] xdpmeta_dev <ifname> Writing just 'dev <ifname>' instead of 'xdpmeta_dev' is a very probable mistake that results in not very descriptive errors, so 'bpftool prog load [...] dev <ifname>' syntax becomes deprecated, followed by 'bpftool map create [...] dev <ifname>' for consistency. Now, to offload program, execute: bpftool prog load [...] offload_dev <ifname> To offload map: bpftool map create [...] offload_dev <ifname> 'dev <ifname>' still performs offloading in the commands above, but now triggers a warning and is excluded from bash completion. 'xdpmeta_dev' and 'offload_dev' are mutually exclusive options, because 'xdpmeta_dev' basically makes a program device-bound without loading it onto the said device. For now, offloaded programs cannot use XDP hints [0], but if this changes, using 'offload_dev <ifname>' should cover this case. 2023-04-27bpftool: Dump map id instead of value for map_of_maps typesXueming Feng
When using `bpftool map dump` with map_of_maps, it is usually more convenient to show the inner map id instead of raw value. We are changing the plain print behavior to show inner_map_id instead of hex value, this would help with quick look up of inner map with `bpftool map dump id <inner_map_id>`. To avoid disrupting scripted behavior, we will add a new `inner_map_id` field to json output instead of replacing value. plain print: ``` $ bpftool map dump id 138 Without Patch: key: fc 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 27 16 06 00 value: 8b 00 00 00 Found 1 element With Patch: key: fc 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 27 16 06 00 inner_map_id: 139 Found 1 element ``` json print: ``` $ bpftool -p map dump id 567 Without Patch: [{ "key": ["0xc0","0x00","0x02","0x05","0x27","0x16","0x06","0x00" ], "value": ["0x38","0x02","0x00","0x00" ] } ] With Patch: [{ "key": ["0xc0","0x00","0x02","0x05","0x27","0x16","0x06","0x00" ], "value": ["0x38","0x02","0x00","0x00" ], "inner_map_id": 568 } ] ``` Signed-off-by: Xueming Feng <kuro@kuroa.me> Acked-by: Yonghong Song <yhs@fb.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230427120313.43574-1-kuro@kuroa.me Signed-off-by: Martin KaFai Lau <martin.lau@kernel.org>
2023-04-27bpftool: Show map IDs along with struct_ops links.Kui-Feng Lee
A new link type, BPF_LINK_TYPE_STRUCT_OPS, was added to attach struct_ops to links. (226bc6ae6405) It would be helpful for users to know which map is associated with the link. The assumption was that every link is associated with a BPF program, but this does not hold true for struct_ops. It would be better to display map_id instead of prog_id for struct_ops links. However, some tools may rely on the old assumption and need a prog_id. The discussion on the mailing list suggests that tools should parse JSON format. We will maintain the existing JSON format by adding a map_id without removing prog_id. As for plain text format, we will remove prog_id from the header line and add a map_id for struct_ops links. You can include an optional path after specifying the object name for the 'struct_ops register' subcommand. Since the commit 226bc6ae6405 ("Merge branch 'Transit between BPF TCP congestion controls.'") has been accepted, it is now possible to create a link for a struct_ops. This can be done by defining a struct_ops in SEC(".struct_ops.link") to make libbpf returns a real link. If we don't pin the links before leaving bpftool, they will disappear. 2023-04-20bpftool: Replace "__fallthrough" by a comment to address merge conflictQuentin Monnet
The recent support for inline annotations in control flow graphs generated by bpftool introduced the usage of the "__fallthrough" macro in a switch/case block in btf_dumper.c. This change went through the bpf-next tree, but resulted in a merge conflict in linux-next, because this macro has been renamed "fallthrough" (no underscores) in the meantime. 2023-04-05bpftool: Support printing opcodes and source file references in CFGQuentin Monnet
Add support for displaying opcodes or/and file references (filepath, line and column numbers) when dumping the control flow graphs of loaded BPF programs with bpftool. The filepaths in the records are absolute. To avoid blocks on the graph to get too wide, we truncate them when they get too long (but we always keep the entire file name). In the unlikely case where the resulting file name is ambiguous, it remains possible to get the full path with a regular dump (no CFG). When dumping a program, the keywords "opcodes" (for printing the raw opcodes), "linum" (for displaying the filename, line number, column number along with the source code), and "visual" (for generating the control flow graph for translated programs) are mutually exclusive. But there's no reason why they should be. Let's make it possible to pass several of them at once. 2023-04-05bpftool: Return an error on prog dumps if both CFG and JSON are requiredQuentin Monnet
We do not support JSON output for control flow graphs of programs with bpftool. So far, requiring both the CFG and JSON output would result in producing a null JSON object. It makes more sense to raise an error directly when parsing command line arguments and options, so that users know they won't get any output they might expect. 2023-04-05bpftool: Support inline annotations when dumping the CFG of a programQuentin Monnet
We support dumping the control flow graph of loaded programs to the DOT format with bpftool, but so far this feature wouldn't display the source code lines available through BTF along with the eBPF bytecode. Let's add support for these annotations, to make it easier to read the graph. In prog.c, we move the call to dump_xlated_cfg() in order to pass and use the full struct dump_data, instead of creating a minimal one in draw_bb_node(). We pass the pointer to this struct down to dump_xlated_for_graph() in xlated_dumper.c, where most of the logics is added. We deal with BTF mostly like we do for plain or JSON output, except that we cannot use a "nr_skip" value to skip a given number of linfo records (we don't process the BPF instructions linearly, and apart from the root of the graph we don't know how many records we should skip, so we just store the last linfo and make sure the new one we find is different before printing it). When printing the source instructions to the label of a DOT graph node, there are a few subtleties to address. We want some special newline markers, and there are some characters that we must escape. To deal with them, we introduce a new dedicated function btf_dump_linfo_dotlabel() in btf_dumper.c. We'll reuse this function in a later commit to format the filepath, line, and column references as well. 2023-04-05bpftool: Fix documentation about line info display for prog dumpsQuentin Monnet
The documentation states that when line_info is available when dumping a program, the source line will be displayed "by default". There is no notion of "default" here: the line is always displayed if available, there is no way currently to turn it off. In the next sentence, the documentation states that if "linum" is used on the command line, the relevant filename, line, and column will be displayed "on top of the source line". This is incorrect, as they are currently displayed on the right side of the source line (or on top of the eBPF instruction, not the source). This commit fixes the documentation to address these points. 2023-02-27tools: bpftool: Remove invalid \' json escapeLuis Gerhorst
RFC8259 ("The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Data Interchange Format") only specifies \", \\, \/, \b, \f, \n, \r, and \r as valid two-character escape sequences. This does not include \', which is not required in JSON because it exclusively uses double quotes as string separators. Solidus (/) may be escaped, but does not have to. Only reverse solidus (\), double quotes ("), and the control characters have to be escaped. Therefore, with this fix, bpftool correctly supports all valid two-character escape sequences (but still does not support characters that require multi-character escape sequences). Witout this fix, attempting to load a JSON file generated by bpftool using Python 3.10.6's default json.load() may fail with the error "Invalid \escape" if the file contains the invalid escaped single quote (\'). This results in build fail when these objects are linked together: /usr/bin/ld: /build.../tools/bpf/resolve_btfids//libbpf/libbpf.a(libbpf-in.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata.str1.1' can not be used when making a PIE \ object; recompile with -fPIE Fixing this by passing HOSTCFLAGS in EXTRA_CFLAGS as part of HOST_OVERRIDES variable for prepare targets. 2023-02-07tools/resolve_btfids: Compile resolve_btfids as host programJiri Olsa
Making resolve_btfids to be compiled as host program so we can avoid cross compile issues as reported by Nathan. Also we no longer need HOST_OVERRIDES for BINARY target, just for 'prepare' targets. 2023-02-02bpftool: profile online CPUs instead of possibleTonghao Zhang
The number of online cpu may be not equal to possible cpu. "bpftool prog profile" can not create pmu event on possible but on online cpu. $ dmidecode -s system-product-name PowerEdge R620 $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/possible 0-47 $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/online 0-31 Disable cpu dynamically: $ echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpuX/online If one cpu is offline, perf_event_open will return ENODEV. To fix this issue: * check value returned and skip offline cpu. * close pmu_fd immediately on error path, avoid fd leaking. 2023-01-25tools/resolve_btfids: Alter how HOSTCC is forcedIan Rogers
HOSTCC is always wanted when building. Setting CC to HOSTCC happens after tools/scripts/Makefile.include is included, meaning flags are set assuming say CC is gcc, but then it can be later set to HOSTCC which may be clang. tools/scripts/Makefile.include is needed for host set up and common macros in objtool's Makefile. Rather than override CC to HOSTCC, just pass CC as HOSTCC to Makefile.build, the libsubcmd builds and the linkage step. This means the Makefiles don't see things like CC changing and tool flag determination, and similar, work properly. Also, clear the passed subdir as otherwise an outer build may break by inadvertently passing an inappropriate value. 2023-01-25tools/resolve_btfids: Install subcmd headersIan Rogers
Previously tools/lib/subcmd was added to the include path, switch to installing the headers and then including from that directory. This avoids dependencies on headers internal to tools/lib/subcmd.
